Common Names: Asphalt, Hajar-ul-musa, Ral-yahudi.
Habitat: Shilajit is ejected out of rocks
during hot weather in lower Himalayas, and Nepal. Varieties
and their characters: Four varieties of shilajit are available
they are
(1) Gold shilajit which is red in colour.
(2) Silver shilajit which is white.
(3) Copper shilajit which is blue.
(4) Iron shilajit which is blackish brown.
Variety used by INDIAN REMEDIES: Iron Shilajit
which is blackish brown in colour and is considered therapeutically
useful.
Procedure of obtaining pure Shilajit: The gummy
substance of shilajit dissolves in water. The insoluble
matter is removed by straining through a thick cloth or
flannel. The fluid is allowed to stand in sun when a creamy
substance rises on the top. It is converted into fine powder
under vacuum dryer to preserve all the active ingredients.
Constituents: Shilajit
contains an oil when distilled known as icthyol. Benzoic
acid and benzoates are present in large amount. Organic
matter is found in large amount in shilajit which when analyzed
was found to be fulvic acid. It also contains urea, water,
nitrogen, lime, potash, phosphoric acid, and silica in small
quantities.
Uses: Shilajit amplifies the benefits of
other herbs by enhancing their bio-availability promotes
the movement of minerals, especially calcium, phosphorous,
and magnesium into muscle. Shilajit helps transport nutrients
deep into tissue and remove deep-seated toxins helps accelerate
processes of protein and nuclei acid metabolism and stimulates
